-Materials List

Step. 1: Download the 3D Star Box Free SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the 3D Star Box Free SVG

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. You do not need to resize this design. It is prepared to cut and will produce a craft that is approximately 6in width x 5in height x 1.75in depth.

Once the design is uploaded, you will need to UNGROUP the file. Click the design and then in the upper right corner, click the ungroup button ONCE and only once.

Please Note: The star base is colored coded green and purple. The green is the bottom base of the star box and the purple is the top of the star box. It is color coded to make it easier for you to identify which pieces go together.

Step 3: Change Cut Lines to SCORE Lines

After you have ungrouped the file, look for the solid cut lines, in the LAYERS panel. There will be eight (8) total. Select them, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to SCORE.

At this time, you will notice that the lines in the LAYERS panel have changed to dashed lines.

Step 4: Attach the Grouping to Canvas

Once you have changed the cut lines to a SCORE line you are ready to attach. Select each grouping of the score line and solid shape layer, individually. Then, right-click on the design, and a pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to find the ATTACH button. You can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Please Note: You must attach each grouping individually. Do this step for a total of eight (8) times. Your layers panel should look similar to mine shown below.

Then click Make in the upper top corner.

Step 5: Mat Preview

After you click Make, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared eight (8) mats for the project. Take note of the order of the mats. Examine the left side of your screen that has the different mats.

You can rearrange some of the elements to reduce the amount of mats that are required. For example, there will be two green mats. Move the star on a green mat to fit on the other green mat that has the star and rectangle sides. You can repeat this step for the lavender mats as well. Also, you can move the lettering on the black mat, to the blue mat, if you desire for the lettering to be blue.

Look for the mats that has SCORE and BASIC CUT. These mats should have the star and rectangle side shapes. If you do not see both of these operations for the mats that have those shapes, click cancel and repeat step three (3) of changing that cut line to a score line.

Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Then click CONTINUE at the bottom right.

Step 6: Medium 80lb Card Stock Cut Settings

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Medium Card Stock 80lb Cut Setting.

Please Note: For the blue mat with the star shape that also has the tiny stars inside the shape, I used the Card Stock for Intricate Cuts Setting.

Check again to make sure that your scoring stylus/wheel and blade are ready for use. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. Secure your card stock to your mat with your brayer. After you have completed this check, you are ready to begin your cut.
