Instructions

Step 1: Download the Father’s Day 3D Tool Box Free SVG Cut File

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Father’s Day 3D Tool Box Free SVG Cut File

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together and is designed to produce a tool box that is approximately 7in length x 4in height x 2.5in depth. Once the design is loaded onto your canvas, you will need to select the design and click the UNGROUP button ONCE. This is the only time you will need to ungroup.

Step 3: Change Cut Lines to SCORE lines

After you ungroup the design, it is necessary to change the cut lines to SCORE lines. Use the scroll bar in the LAYERS panel to scroll to find the FOUR (4) different cut lines. They will be grouped together with another cut element. (DO NOT ungroup them) Select each cut line, move over to the OPERATIONS panel, select the drop-down arrow and then click SCORE. The cut lines will immediately change to SCORE lines. This will be evident because you will see dashed lines on your screen.

If you do not change these cut lines to SCORE lines then the design will cut in pieces!

Step 4: Rotate the BLUE Tool Box Layers

Once you have changed the cut lines to score lines, select the BLUE tool box layers. Be sure that both the score line layer and the blue background layer are selected. Move over to the ROTATE option in the upper tool bar and rotate both layers 45 degrees. You will notice an immediate rotation of the elements. This step is necessary so that you can cut the layers on a 12in x 12in card stock sheet. If you do not rotate the layers, you will be forced to use a 12in x 24in sheet.

Step 5: Attach Layers

Once you have rotated the blue layers, you must now ATTACH all four of the grouped score line layers with their coordinating cut layer. Use the LAYERS scroll bar to find each score line and its coordinating cut layer and select the individual grouping. Now you can right click in the selected design on your canvas, when the drop-down menu opens, scroll and click ATTACH. Or you can select the ATTACH button in the lower right. corner of your screen.

***You MUST attach each grouping separately! You cannot attach all of them at the same time. If you attach them all at the same time, they will all cut on the same sheet of card stock.***

If you have attached the four groupings separately, then you will see the ATTACH elements separately in your layers panel. See the image above for clarification. Once your elements are attached separately, select MAKE IT in the upper right corner.

Step 6: Mat Preview

After selecting Make It, a new screen will open with your Mat Preview screen. You will see that the software has prepared six (6) mats. Find the second gray mat that has the rectangle elements. Select all three rectangles, click the three dots at the top left of the bounding box. Click Move object and a new mini-window will open showing all the mats prepared. Select the other gray mat and click continue. This will now move the rectangles to the first gray mat.

Using your left scroll bar, find the first gray mat that has all the gray elements. Rearrange all the elements so that none overlap and all will cut on the mat. If necessary, use the rotate tool on the elements to make them fit. Once you have adjusted the elements, use the scroll bar to take note of the order of the card stock sheets. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order your software has prepared. Be sure to also check that the blue and black mats have both SCORE and BASIC CUT. Once you have adjusted the elements and taken note of the order, select the CONTINUE button in the lower right corner.

Step 7: Card Stock Cut Settings

Once you have click continue, your next window will be for the card stock cut setting. You will notice that the software has now prepared five (5) mats. Confirm this on the left side of your screen.

For this craft, I will cut on the Card Stock 80lb setting. Again, take note that your machine operation is Basic Cut and Score. Be sure to have your scoring stylus or wheel loaded into your machine. Prepare your with your 12in x 12in card stock. Use your Brayer to secure your card stock to you mats. Once you are satisfied that everything is correct, begin your cut.
