It is always fun to decorate for Christmas but what makes it more fun is when we get to create our own Christmas Decor! These FREE Christmas Joy Stacking Blocks are a must have for you to create this Holiday season. Scroll below for a written and video tutorial of the assembly!

-Materials List

  • I am using my Cricut Explore. You could use your Cricut Maker or another similar cutting machine.
  • 12in x 12in Cricut Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • One sheet of 8.5in x 11in cardstock in black, red, green
  • Two sheets of 8.5in x 11in red vellum
  • Glue. I am using Art Glitter Glue.
  • Cricut Brayer
  • Three Flameless LED tealight candles.

***For safety measures, use a flameless candle. I used a LED tealight candle that was a $1.25. This design is NOT meant to use an open flame candle.***

Instructions

Step 1: Download the Free Christmas Joy Stacking Blocks SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Free Christmas Joy Stacking Blocks SVG File into Design Space

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. Select the design and click Ungroup in the upper right corner of your screen. After you click ungroup, you will need to hide the holly and berries, the vellum insert layer and two of the box layers. You can hide these layers by selecting the layer in the LAYERS panel and clicking the eyeball to the right of the layer.

Step 3: Prepare the SCORE lines

After you have hidden the layers, you must change the cut lines on the box to SCORE lines. This is a necessary step otherwise the box will cut in pieces. In order to change the cut line to SCORE lines, select the solid cut line layer. Then in the OPERATIONS panel, select the drop-down arrow and then click SCORE.

Step 4: Attach the Layer

Now that you have changed the cut line to a SCORE line, you must ATTACH both the layers. Use your mouse to drag a box and select the layers. Right-click inside the pop-up box and a drop-down menu will open. Scroll and click attach. Then select Make it in the upper right corner of your screen.

Step 5: Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When on this screen, you will see the layers for the project. Check to make sure that your machine will perform both operations: Score and Basic Cut. Look towards the upper left of your screen and find where it shows the operations for score AND basic cut. If you do not see both of these operations, click cancel and repeat step 3 of changing the cut line on the box base layer to a score line. If both score and basic cut are visible, click continue at the bottom right.

Step 6: Cardstock Cut Settings

Once you have clicked continue, your next window will be your cardstock cut settings. For this craft, I will cut each layer on the Cardstock 80lb setting. Take note that your machine operation is Basic Cut. and Score. Be sure to have your scoring stylus or wheel loaded into your machine. Again, when you are satisfied that everything is correct, begin your cut. Repeat this step until you have cut and scored all the box layers. Then return back to your main canvas.

Step 7: Cut the Holly and Berries

After you have cut the box layers and returned to your main canvas, hide all the box layers and unhide the holly and berries. Arrange them on your canvas and arrange your cardstock on your Light Grip Cutting Mat cutting. Select all the layers and attach them to your canvas as you did in step 4. Then select Make it and follow the prompts to cut the pieces. When you have finished cutting the holly and berries, return to the main canvas.

Step 8: Cut the Vellum Inserts

After you have cut the box layers, holly and berries, you are ready to cut the vellum inserts. Prepare the vellum by duplicating the vellum shape until you have 15 pieces on your canvas. You can duplicate the vellum layer by selecting the layer and then clicking the duplicate icon in the upper right of your screen. Arrange your vellum sheet on your mat so that the pieces on your screen canvas will cut on your mat. Again, select all the pieces and attach them to your screen canvas. Then select Make it and follow the prompts to cut the vellum inserts.
