-Materials List

  • I am using my Cricut Explore. You could use your Cricut Maker or another similar cutting machine.
  • Cricut Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • Cricut Scoring Wheel or Stylus
  • One sheet of 8.5in x 11in Black Cardstock
  • A scrap or One sheet of 8.5in x 11in Red, Orange, White Cardstock
  • Glue. I am using Art Glitter Glue.
  • Cricut Brayer

Step 1: Download the Free Christmas Penguin Lollipop Holder SVG

You can download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can also get the password for my library by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder to your computer. Take note where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Free Christmas Penguin Lollipop Holder SVG File into Design Space and Ungroup

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together and is designed to fit the average blow pop or tootsie pop. You do not need to resize the design. It is ready to cut. Once loaded, you will need to ungroup the file. Click the design and then in the upper right corner, click the ungroup button.

Step 3: Change Cut Line to SCORE lines

After you have ungrouped the file, rearrange the penguin body and hat lid, feet and beak, hat and scarf and eyes. Arrange them so that they do not overlap with each other. The black penguin base and solid lines will remain grouped together. DO NOT ungroup them. Instead, you must convert the solid cut line on the base to a SCORE line. This step is necessary to prevent the holder from cutting in multiple pieces. In the LAYERS panel, look for the solid cut line. Click it, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change it from Basic Cut to SCORE. At this time, you will notice that the lines in the LAYERS panel have changed to dashed lines.

Now using your Light Grip Cutting Mat, arrange your coordinating-colored cardstock into positions that match the arrangement on your screen.

Step 4: Attach the layers

Once you have changed the cut line on the penguin base to a SCORE line AND arranged the layers, you are ready to attach. Drag your mouse across the layers on the canvas screen to create a box around all the layers. Or you can click the layers one by one in the layers panel while simultaneously holding down the shift key. Then, right click in the box just created, and a pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to find the ATTACH button. You can also click on the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen. Then click Make it in the upper top corner.

Step 5: Check Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the layers for the project. Check to make sure that your machine will perform both operations: Score and Basic Cut. Look towards the upper left of your screen and find where it shows the operations for score AND basic cut. If you do not see both of these operations, click cancel and repeat step 3 of changing the cut line on the penguin to a score line. If both score and basic cut are visible, click continue at the bottom right.

Step 6: Cardstock Cut Settings

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the cardstock setting of Medium Cardstock 80lb. Check again to make sure that your scoring stylus/wheel and blade are loaded. After you have completed this check, you are ready to begin your cut.

Make sure your mat is loaded with your cardstock in the correct position/arrangement. Use your brayer to secure the cardstock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut.
