-Materials List

Step 1: Download the Father’s Day Dad Badge Gift Card Holder Free SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Father’s Day Dad Badge Gift Card Holder Free SVG

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. You do not need to resize this design. It is prepared to cut and will produce a craft that is approximately 5.6in width x 5.5in height. Once the design is uploaded, you will need to UNGROUP the file. Click the design and then in the upper right corner, click the ungroup button ONCE and only once.

Please Note: If you wish to resize the design to make it larger or smaller, I recommend deleting the yellow back layer, because the ability of the back layer to house a gift card will be greatly diminished.

Please Note: In the Layers panel you will see a bright pink and bright, light blue layer towards the very bottom. These two layers represent the envelope. Feel free to change these layers to a color of your choice. They are only dictated these colors for easy identifying purposes.

Step 3: Change Lines to SCORE lines

After you have ungrouped the file, look for the solid cut line, in the LAYERS panel. It is grouped with the bright, light-blue shape layer. Select the cut line, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to SCORE.

At this time, you will notice that the line in the LAYERS panel have changed to dashed lines.

Step 4: Attach Grouping to Canvas

Once you have changed the cut line to a SCORE line you are ready to attach. Select the grouping of the score line and the bright, light-blue solid shape layer. Then, right-click on the design, and a pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to find the ATTACH button. You can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Then click Make in the upper top corner.

Step 5: Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared seven (7) mats for the project.

(Remember that two (2) of these layers are for the envelope.)

Take a few moments to scroll through the mats and view the elements. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Then click CONTINUE in the lower right corner of your screen.

Step 6: Card Stock Cut Settings for the Father’s Day Dad Badge Gift Card Holder Free SVG

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the Medium Card Stock Cut Setting.

Please Note: For the Blue Layer with Words, I recommend changing the cut setting to the Card Stock setting for Intricate Cuts Setting. I also recommend using a fairly new-ish mat for cutting this layer.

Check to make sure that your scoring stylus/wheel and blade are ready for use. Check to also make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. Use your brayer to secure the card stock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut.
