-Materials List

  • I am using my Cricut Maker. You could use your Cricut Explore or another similar cutting machine.
  • 12in x 12in Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • One (1) 8.5in x 11in sheet of card stock in Light Blue, Dark Blue, Green, White, Yellow and Orange
  • One (1) 12in x 12in sheet of card stock Black
  • A scrap of card stock in Pink
  • Brayer (to secure card stock to the mat)
  • Glue. I am using Art Glitter Glue

Step 1: Download the Earth Day Plant Trees and Smiles Free SVG Cut File

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Earth Day Plant Trees and Smiles Free SVG Cut File

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. You do not need to resize or ungroup this design. It is prepared to cut and will produce a craft that is approximately 7.4in width x 7.4in height. However, if you wish to resize the design to make it larger or smaller, you may do so by grabbing the handle bars at the corner of the bounding box and moving inward or outward. If you make the design larger, you may need to switch to 12in x 12in card stock. Then select Make in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Check Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared nine (9) mats for the project. Take a few moments to scroll through the mats and view the elements. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen.

You will notice that the software has prepared two (2) mats for Black card stock. These can be rearranged so that all the elements cut on one (1) mat. Select a mat and then select the elements on the mat. A bounding box will appear around the elements, with three dots in the upper left corner. Select the dots and then click Move Object. Follow the prompts to move the elements to the other Black mat. Then select the mat you choose and rearrange the elements on the mat so that everything fits.

Double check the order of your mats again and once you are certain of the order, ensure that your first mat is again selected. Then click CONTINUE in the lower right corner of your screen.

Step 4: Card Stock Settings, Load Mat and Cut Materials

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Medium Card Stock. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. Use your brayer to secure the card stock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut.
