Instructions

Step 1: Download the Easy DIY Flower Mother’s Day Card Free SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Easy DIY Flower Mother’s Day Card Free SVG

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. Once uploaded, you will need to ungroup the file ONCE and only ONCE.

Step 3: Change Cut Lines to SCORE lines

After you have ungrouped the file, in the LAYERS panel, look for the two (2) solid cut lines. Select them both, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to SCORE. At this time, you will notice that the lines in the LAYERS panel have changed from solid lines to dashed lines.

Step 4: Change Cut Lines to Draw/Pen lines

Now you must change the insert text and picture layer to the PEN operation. In the LAYERS panel, look for the text layer that reads “love you” and the picture layer of the three (3) hearts. Select both layers, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to PEN. At this time, you will notice that the layer has changed to read DRAW.

Step 5: Attach the Groupings to the Canvas

After changing the cut lines to SCORE and DRAW, you are ready to attach. Select the PINK card grouping layer that also has a SCORE layer. Right click on the design to make the drop-down menu appear and select the ATTACH button. Or you can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Then select the LIGHT BLUE insert grouping layers. Right click on the design to make the drop-down menu appear and select the ATTACH button. Or you can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Lastly, select the PURPLE grouping layer that also has a SCORE layer. Right click on the design to make the drop-down menu appear and select the ATTACH button. Or you can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen. Once you have attached all three groupings individually, select MAKE in the upper right corner.

Step 6: Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared three (3) mats for the project.

Examine the left sidebar to check to make sure that your machine will perform the operations: Score, Basic Cut and Pen. If you do not see these operations for your layers, click cancel and repeat step 3, step 4 or step 5.

Lastly, take note of the order of the mats. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Once you are certain of the order of the mats and that all the functions are complete, select CONTINUE in the lower right corner of your screen.

Step 7: Medium 80lb Card Stock Cut Settings

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Medium 80lb Cut Setting. Check again to make sure that your pen is loaded. You will also need your scoring stylus/wheel. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. After you have completed this check, you are ready to begin your cut.

Make sure your mat is loaded with your card stock in the correct position/arrangement. Use your brayer to secure the card stock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut.
