  • Cricut Brayer
  • Cricut Pen. I am using black.
  • Glue

Instructions

Step 1: Download the FREE Present Money Holder SVG

Download the SVG file from my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder to your computer. Be sure to note where on your computer the folder downloaded and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the SVG File into Design Space and change the Text Layer to Pen

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. This design is pre-sized to cut at approximately 4.5in x 6in. It is not necessary for you to re-size the design.

The design will upload onto your canvas grouped together. Ungroup the design by clicking ungroup in the upper right corner. Clicking ungroup will separate the layers from each other. However, the bottom layer will stay grouped to the text layer. Do not ungroup the bottom layer from the text layer. It is necessary that they remain together. You will need to change the text layer from the cut operation to the draw PEN operation. Click the text layer in the layers panel. Then click the drop-down arrow beside basic cut, in the upper toolbar, and select the PEN operation, After you do this the text layer will change to draw with your PEN.

Step 3A: Separate the Layers to cut on Multiple Mats

Now that you have changed the text layer to a PEN operation, you will need to separate the remaining layers. If you would like to cut the layers on multiple mats, continue to read this section, Step 3A. If you would like to cut the layers on one mat, skip this section, Step 3A, and begin reading at section, Step 3B.

Arrange the different layers on your canvas. Remember that the text layer and the bottom layer are grouped and must remain so. Once you have arranged the layers, click the grouped bottom and text layer. Right click in the selection, then select ATTACH in the pop-up menu or you can select ATTACH in the bottom right corner. When you do this the bottom layer and text layer will attach together to the mat. Now you are ready to click Make It in the upper right corner.

Step 3B: Separate the Layers to cut on One Mat

If you would like to cut your layers on one mat, please continue reading this section, Step 3B. If you have arranged your layers to cut on multiple mats AND followed the instructions in Step 3A, continue to Step 4.

Now that you have changed the text layer to a PEN operation, you must separate the remaining layers. Arrange the different layers on your canvas. Remember that the text layer and the bottom layer are grouped and must remain so. Once you have arranged the layers, select ALL the layers. Right click in the selection, then select ATTACH in the pop-up menu or select ATTACH in the bottom right corner. This will now attach all the layers in the position you placed them on one mat. Now you are ready to click Make It in the upper right corner.

Step 4: Mat Preview

After clicking Make It, a new window will open with your mat preview. When cutting the layers on multiple mats, your new screen will show the first layer that will cut. However, take note of the order of the layers on the left side of the screen. Most likely, the layer order will be out of sequence. Study the order and arrange your layers/mats in the order shown so that you cut the correct layers on the coordinating color(s) you have set. Use your brayer to secure your cardstock onto the mat. When you have your layers and mats lined up, click continue.

When you are cutting the layers on one mat, place your cardstock according to the colors and arrangement you have determined on your mat. Use your brayer to secure your cardstock onto the mat. After you have your cardstock colors and position to your liking, click continue.

Step 5: Choosing Your Materials

Your next screen will give you the option to select your materials. I typically use the Cardstock 80 lb setting. But if you are using specialty paper or glitter cardstock you may need to choose a different setting. Click Browse All Materials to see your options. Make sure that you have added your PEN to the pen holder! When you have selected your materials, load your mat and begin to cut your layers.

Once your cut is complete, be sure to peel the mat away from the cardstock instead of peeling the cardstock away from the mat. Doing so will prevent any curling of the cardstock. And remember to peel slowly and gently so that you do not accidently rip any delicate areas of the design.
