Free Santa’s Sleigh with Reindeer

When it comes to Christmas, one of the figures we think of is Santa Claus. And as soon as we think of him, we envision him sitting in his sleigh with his Santa sack overflowing with presents while being pulled by his magical reindeer. This is what makes this freebie for you a real treat. It’s a Free Santa’s Sleigh with Reindeer Paper Craft! This craft uses several layers of cardstock, but the completed craft is so cute! The kiddos are sure to love it and it makes a perfect addition to Christmas decor!

When you are crafting this design remember, let your creativity flow! Use pattern cardstock for the present layers, glitter cardstock for the sleigh, or even use foil cardstock for Santa’s sack and ribbon layer. So many different possibilities to add your own creativity and I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Scroll below for a written and video tutorial. Also, in the assembly video, I add magnetic strips to the back of mine so that I can put it on my refrigerator. You can choose to add magnetic strips, but it is only one option of many different ways you can use the file!

-Materials List

  • I am using my Cricut Explore. You could use your Cricut Maker or another similar cutting machine.
  • 12in x 12in Cricut Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • Cricut Scoring Wheel or Stylus
  • One (1) sheet of 12in x 12in cardstock in black
  • One (1) sheet of 8.5in x 11in cardstock in white, black, pink, dark brown, regular brown, light brown, yellow or gold, green, blue, purple, peach, bright red, and dark red
  • Glue. I am using Art Glitter Glue.
  • Cricut Brayer

Step 1: Download the Free Santa’s Sleigh with Reindeer SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Free Santa’s Sleigh with Reindeer SVG File into Design Space

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. If you wish to resize the design, you may do so at this step. However, it is not a necessary step but your personal preference. There is also no need to ungroup the file. Click Make it in the upper right corner to begin the cut.

Step 3: Check Mat Preview

Once you click Make It, a new window will open with your mat preview. You should see that the software has prepared 14 mats for the cut. Use the scroll bar to the left of the mat preview screen to view each mat. Take note of the order of each layer and line up your mats accordingly. Each layer is a different color and all the elements are grouped by color. As you are taking note of the order, you will notice that all the white elements will cut on one mat. Examine the preview of the white mat and make sure that all the elements will fit on the 8.5in x 11in cardstock. If necessary, rearrange the pieces so that it will cut correctly. You can rearrange the pieces by clicking on the element and moving it on the mat.

In addition, you will also notice that one black layer mat will need and use the 12in x 12in black cardstock. Take note of where in the order of the cut this layer is and arrange your layers. Examine the remaining layers then select the continue button at the lower right of your screen.

Step 4: Cardstock Settings and Load Mat and Cut Materials

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I will cut on the Medium Cardstock 80 lb setting. Check again to make sure the order of your mats matches the order of the cuts on the left of your screen. Use your scroll bar to check the order. You should also see 14 mats for this cut.

Secure the cardstock on the mat using your brayer. Load the mat into your cutting machine. Position and line up your mat according to the mat guides. You will know your machine is ready to cut when you see the flashing “c” button. Press that button to start your cut. Once the cut completes, load your second mat, press the flashing “c” button again. Repeat this step until all layers have been cut.

PRO TIP: If you are using glitter or foil cardstock to cut any of the layers, you will need to change the cardstock settings and cut those layers separately. You can do this by first hiding the layers (clicking the eyeball to the right of the layer) after uploading the file in Design Space. Once you have finished cutting the other layers, you can return to the canvas, un-hide the layers you need to cut and hide the layers you just cut. Then click Make It and follow the prompts for selecting the cut settings.
