Instructions

Step 1: Download the Happy Holidays Christmas Card Free SVG

You can download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can also get the password for my library by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder to your computer. Take note where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Happy Holidays Christmas Card Free SVG File into Design Space and Ungroup

Upload the Happy Holidays Christmas Card Free SVG File into Cricut Design Space. The file is designed to produce a square card that is 4in x 4in. The SVG file will upload grouped together. Once uploaded, you will need to ungroup the file ONCE.

After you have ungrouped the file, select the grouping that includes the green card layer. Then select Ungroup, under the layers panel, ONCE.

Step 3: Change Cut Lines to SCORE lines

After you have ungrouped the file, in the LAYERS panel, look for the two (2) solid cut lines. Select them both, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to SCORE. At this time, you will notice that the lines in the LAYERS panel have changed from solid lines to dashed lines.

Step 4: Change Cut Line to PEN

Now you must change the text layer to the PEN operation. In the LAYERS panel, look for the text and ornament string layer directly above the score line in the green card grouping. Select the layer, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to PEN. At this time, you will notice that the layer has changed to read DRAW.

Step 5: Attach Envelope and Card Layers

After changing the cut lines to SCORE and DRAW, you are ready to attach. Select the YELLOW envelope grouping layers. Right click on the design to make the drop-down menu appear and select the ATTACH button. Or you can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

You will also need to select the GREEN card grouping layers that also has the Draw layer. Right click on the design to make the drop-down menu appear and select the ATTACH button. Or you can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen. After you have attached both the envelope with score layer and the card with score and draw layers, select MAKE in the upper right corner.

Step 6: Check Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared three (3) mats for the project. Use the scroll bar to the left to check to make sure that your machine will perform the operations: Score, Basic Cut and Pen.

Look for the yellow mat layer and find where it shows the operations for Score AND Basic Cut. If you do not see both of these operations for the yellow mat layer, click cancel and repeat step 3 of changing the cut lines to a score line.

Also, use the scroll bar, to the left, to look for the green card mat layer. Make sure that your machine will preform the operations PEN, SCORE and BASIC CUT. All three functions must be present or the card will not turn out correctly. If you do not see all of these operations, click cancel and repeat step 3 of changing the cut lines to a score line or step 4 or changing the cut lines to pen lines.

Lastly, take note of the order of the mats. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Once you are certain of the order of the mats and that all the functions are complete, select CONTINUE in the lower right corner of your screen.

Step 7: Intricate Card Stock Cut Settings

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Card Stock for Intricate Cuts Setting. Check again to make sure that your pen is loaded. You will also need your scoring stylus/wheel. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. After you have completed this check, you are ready to begin your cut.

Make sure your mat is loaded with your card stock in the correct position/arrangement. Use your brayer to secure the card stock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut.
