-Materials List

  • I am using my Cricut Explore. You could use your Cricut Maker or another similar cutting machine.
  • Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • Brayer
  • Tweezers (This is the set I have and use)
  • Glue. I am using Art Glitter Glue
  • One (1) 12in x 12in sheet of card stock in Purple, Light, Purple, Green, White, Yellow, Black
  • One (1) 12in x 12in sheet of card stock in FIVE different shades of Pink
  • One (1) 6in x 6in sheet or scrap of card stock in Brown, Light Brown, Teal, Aqua, Orange, Gray and Lavender

Step 1: Download the Happy Spring Fence Decor SVG Cut File

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Happy Spring Fence Decor SVG Cut File

Upload Happy Spring Fence Decor SVG Cut File into Cricut Design Space. The SVG will upload grouped together and is sized to produce a sign that is approximately 11.5in width x 9in height. If you wish to delete, hide or cut certain elements at certain times, you can ungroup the design and proceed with your steps. However, if you wish to send the file directly to cutting all at once, you do not need to ungroup but select Make It in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Examine the Mat Preview

After you have selected Make It, a new window screen will open. On this screen you will see that the software has prepared 19 (nineteen) mats for you! Phew, that’s a lot! Take time to examine each mat and prepare your Light Grip Blue mats to match the order on your screen. Also take note of the size of the elements on each mat. For several of the mats, i.e. the orange, light blue, brown, some of the pink mats, you will not need a full 12in x 12in sheet of card stock. Search your stash and find a scrap piece! Line up your scrap piece to match the position shown on your screen.

Using the scroll bar to the left of your screen, scroll to find both purple mats. Select the purple egg mat and select the egg. Click the three dots that appear and then click move object. A new window will open showing all the various mat colors. Find the other purple mat, select it and then click continue. This will move the egg to the mat that has the purple back element and butterfly back.

Select the mat that has the purple back and butterfly elements. You will see the purple egg also on that mat. Select the egg and move it to part of the mat where is will not cut another element. If necessary, rotate the egg so that it fits on the mat. Again, go through to check the order of the mats and ensure that your mats and card stock match the order the software has prepared. Once you are certain of the order, return to the first mat, select it and then click continue in the lower right corner.

Step 4: Check Cut Settings

After you click continue, a new window will open with your card stock cut settings. For this project, I will cut using the Card Stock 80lb setting however, if you find that any of your card stock shredded, it may be necessary to cut on the Card Stock for Intricate Cuts setting. Use your scroll bar to the left to complete a final check of the order of your mats. You should also see that your mat number has reduced to 18 mats. Remember to use your brayer to secure your card stock to your mat. Once you are satisfied that everything is correct, load your mat into the machine and begin your cuts.

Pro Tip: After each cut, peel the mat away from your card stock. This will keep the card stock from curling.
