-Materials List

Step 1: Download the He is Risen Easter Shadowbox Free SVG Cut File

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the He is Risen Easter Shadowbox Free SVG Cut File

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. Once uploaded you will see that the file is sized at 8.5in x 8.5in. This size will fit the average 9in x 9in shadowbox. However, measure the inset size of your shadowbox to ensure that the design will fit yours. The SVG file will also upload grouped together. Select the button under LAYERS, in the upper right corner, to ungroup the design ONCE.

Step 3: Change the Text Layer to Pen and Attach Text and Tomb Layer together

Once you have ungrouped the design, you will need to convert the text layer to the DRAW and PEN function. This step is necessary in order to prevent your machine from cutting out the text. In the LAYERS panel, scroll until you see the text layer. Select the text layer and then move over to the OPERATION tab and change it from Basic Cut to PEN. You will not notice any visible change to the layer, however if you select another layer and then again select the text layer, you should see that the operations changed during your selection.

Once you have changed the text layer to a PEN operation, select both the text layer AND the gray tomb opening layer. Both of these layers are grouped together. DO NOT ungroup them just make sure they are both selected. Right click inside the design on the canvas, so that the pop up menu appears, and select ATTACH or at the bottom of the layers panel select ATTACH. This step is necessary in order for the text layer to draw on the tomb opening layer. If you do not complete this step, the text will write on it’s own mat layer.

After you have ATTACHED the text and tomb layers together, select Make It in the upper right corner.

Step 4: Check Mat Preview

After clicking Make It, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see TEN (10) different layers for the file. Use the scroll bar and scroll through all the layers. Take note of the layer order and arrange your card stock mats to match the order of the layers the software prepared.

Be sure to find the layer of the text and tomb opening. Make sure that both of these are showing together on the SAME mat. Check the operations of this mat. You should see Pen AND Basic Cut. If you do not, return to the canvas and repeat step 3.

Once you have verified the order of the mats AND checked the text and tomb opening mat layer, select your first mat in the mat preview column. Then select Continue in the lower right corner.

Step 5: Cardstock Cut Settings

After selecting Continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I set my machine to Medium Cardstock 80lb setting. Check again the order of the mats and make sure that your order matches the software. Use your brayer to secure your card stock to your mats and then begin your cut. If you are using 8.5in x 11in card stock be sure to line up the sheets on your mat so that the cuts will be precise.

PRO TIP: When you are ready to cut the text and tomb opening layer, add your PEN to your machine BEFORE you start the cut. When the cut completes, remove your pen from the machine. This will prevent your pen from drying out during the cut.

PRO TIP: When your pens are not in use, store them with the pen tip down. This will keep the flow of ink in the tip head and ready for use. Also, use care when adding pens to your machine. Excessive pressure when inserting the pen can damage your machine!!
