-Materials List

Step. 1: Download the Layered Retro Roller Skate Free SVG

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Layered Retro Roller Skate Free SVG

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. You do not need to resize or ungroup this design. It is prepared to cut and will produce a craft that is approximately 8.8in width x 7.6in height.

Once the design is uploaded, you will need to UNGROUP the file. Click the design and then in the upper right corner, click the ungroup button ONCE and only once.

Step 3: Change Cut Lines to DRAW lines

After you have ungrouped the file, look for two (2) dashed cut lines, in the LAYERS panel. Select them both, then move over to the OPERATION tab and change the operation from Basic Cut to DRAW. At this time, you will notice that the lines in the LAYERS panel have changed to DRAW lines. These draw lines will give the effect of stitching on the roller skate.

Step 4: Attach the DRAW lines to the Canvas

Once you have changed the cut lines to a DRAW line you are ready to attach. Select one (1) draw line with its coordinating solid shape layer. Then, right-click on the design, and a pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to find the ATTACH button. You can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Return to the LAYERS panel and find the second draw line. Select the draw line with its coordinating solid shape layer. Then, right-click on the design, and a pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to find the ATTACH button. You can also select the ATTACH button towards the bottom right of your screen.

Then click Make in the upper top corner.

Step 5: Mat Preview

After you click Make, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared eleven (11) mats for the project. Examine the left side of your screen that has the different mats and take note of the order of the mats.

You will notice that you can reduce the amount of mats needed with the yellow and light blue mats. Select the single element on the mat and click the three (3) dots that appear, to the left, in the bounding box. Select Move Object and follow the prompts to more the single element to the coordinating color mat. For example, move the yellow single element to the other yellow mat. Repeat this for the blue single element. Once you have moved the elements, you will need to rearrange all the elements on the mat so that they will all cut without overlapping. Use the rotate bar (the turn icon, to the right, in the bounding box).

Also, ensure that your light blue mat has the operation PEN and Basic Cut. If you do not see both of these operations for the light blue mat, click cancel and repeat step 3 of changing that cut line to a draw line. If both draw and basic cut are visible, arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Then click CONTINUE at the bottom right.

Step 6: Medium 80lb Card Stock Cut Settings

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Medium Card Stock 80lb Cut Setting. Check again to make sure that your PEN and blade are ready for use. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared. After you have completed this check, you are ready to begin your cut.
