-Materials List

Step 1: Download the Layered Total Solar Eclipse Free SVG Cut File

Download the SVG file in my free Resource Library HERE. You can get the password for my library by filling out the newsletter form at the bottom of this post.

Save the downloaded zipped folder on your computer. Pay attention to where on your computer the folder downloads and then unzip the folder to extract the contents. The folder and files must be unzipped (extracted) before you can upload the SVG file into your cutting software.

Step 2: Upload the Layered Total Solar Eclipse Free SVG Cut File

Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. The SVG file will upload grouped together. You do not need to resize or ungroup this design. It is prepared to cut and will produce a craft that is approximately 9in width x 6in height. However, if you wish to resize the design to make it larger or smaller, you may do so by grabbing the handle bars at the corner of the bounding box and moving inward or outward.

Look through the LAYERS panel for the Black Circle layers and the Solar word layer. Select both layers and then click the eyeball directly to the right of each layer. This will hide the layers so that they can be cut layer on glitter card stock. Then select Make in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Check Mat Preview

After you click Make it, a new window will open with your mat preview. When you are on this screen, you will see the software has prepared five (5) mats for the project. Take a few moments to scroll through the mats and view the elements. Arrange your card stock and mats to match the order on your screen. Once you are certain of the order of the mats, make sure that your first mat is again selected. Then click CONTINUE in the lower right corner of your screen.

Step 4: Card Stock Settings, Load Mat and Cut Materials

Once you click continue, your next screen will have your material selection menu. For this project, I am using the card stock setting of Card Stock for Intricate Cuts. Check to make sure that your Light Grip mats are in the correct order and match the sequence your software has prepared.

Use your brayer to secure the card stock on the mat. Load and position your mat according to the mat guides. Begin your cut. Once your cut has finished return to the main canvas, to cut the remaining two layers on glitter card stock.

Step 5: Cut Glitter Card Stock Layer

When your cuts have completed and you have returned to your main canvas, go through the layers panel and hide (or delete) all the layers you just cut by selecting the eyeballs to the right of each layer. Then unhide (by selecting the layer and then the eyeball for) the layers you will cut on Glitter Card Stock. Again, no adjustments are necessary. So select Make in the upper right corner. Follow the prompts through the mat preview setting.

Please Note: I used two (2) different sheets of Glitter Card Stock for my cuts. I used a Black Glitter Card Stock for my moon circles and a Yellow Glitter Card Stock for my solar word layer.

Then select Continue to proceed to your Cut Settings window. Select the setting for Glitter Card Stock. If necessary, click Browse All Materials and look for the setting. Check again to make sure that your machine will complete Basic Cut. Use your Brayer to secure the glitter card stock to your Light Grip Cutting Mat and select go.
